This course is six weeks, three weeks at OCC on Mondays at 6:15-7:15 pm and the final three weeks at a farm on Fridays at 6:00 pm. The Farm Dog class will prepare you to take the AKC Farm Dog Certified test. We will practice twelve exercises: greeting a judge, performing a walking pattern around a farm environment, jumping on a hay or a straw bale, walking by farm animals, walking over and through unusual surfaces, remaining calmly in a supervised separation, passing through a gate, feeding livestock while the dog waits in a controlled position, heeling calmly past another dog, being composed around noise distractions, approaching livestock, and quietly allowing for a physical examination. Farm Dog class will represent situations a farm dog would encounter in a typical farm environment. The basic test requirements are designed to demonstrate the self-control and obedience, which are necessary and vital for the welfare of both the dog and the livestock. It is also intended to show the dog’s ability to cope appropriately with potentially unique environments. These traits and foundational training are vital to a working farm dog as well as to the welfare of the livestock. This class provides an opportunity for the dogs to apply their basic training in a novel environment, demonstrating their natural capability and trainability to work in partnership with their human companions. What you need to bring: your dog; a four to six foot leash; a secure, well-fitting, flat collar; a can-do attitude and a spirit for adventure!

Invitation only. The objective of Freestyle Dogwork is to show the dog/handler team's working relationship, share the joy of training and present the dog to his/her best advantage. In six 2-hour long classes we'll achieve this by learning to recognize the most beautiful of our dogs' attributes and by learning to blend those into a logical movement piece, accompanied with music, that is a pleasure for spectators to watch. We spend time on the techniques of training movement, but just as important, we teach the concepts that help you to create a movement piece while handling your dog in a way that enhances every motion. This class builds teamwork like no other! Dogs should have basic obedience skills such as heel, stay, come, sit and down. Skills need not be advanced. The best work will be done off-lead, but dogs can stay on lead if necessary. Classes are March 8th, March 22nd, April 5th, May 17th and May 31st from 2-6pm.

Fair Play Friday-Yappy Hour Play from 5:30-6:15. All puppies 5 months - 8 months of age are eligible to play! After Puppy Preschool, where is it safe for a pup to play? Meeting the wrong dogs in dog parks can teach pups inappropriate play styles that may keep them from having fun play encounters for the rest of their lives and it can result in a lifetime of play frustration. Puppies play differently than adult dogs. Because of their super exuberant, over- exaggerated play they need their own playgroup to frolic and test responses with each other and just be goofy. This sensitive and impressionable teenage-time needs guidance to learn to respect the space of others and engage in polite, fair and reciprocal play. All pups will earn play time with Obedience practice. We will actively practice recalls from the play group - so be prepared to work. This is the ONLY play class that allows treats to enter the ring but you must use the treats only when instructed! $10.00 for dogs to play or $5.00 if you just want to watch and learn body language. No females in heat, no dogs with known reactivity issues, no dogs with a history of a bite. Some adult dogs will be present to help moderate enthusiasm and play styles.

Description

If you are interested in learning to recognize canine signals in an online environment, OCC is offering this class for $25.00. This mini-session will have 4 on-line classes. We will be looking at photographs, identifying the signals and learning the commonly accepted terminology for the signals presented. Once still-life photography has been mastered, if the class is ready, we will move on to a progression of photographs that are a stop-motion of a single interaction to discuss the fluidity of signals and then move on to analyzing video. Most of the video sequences are staged on-leash greetings but the language is lovely and fun to try and see in real time. There are also some play group videos, but being able to get that far would depend on class size. We will progress at the speed of the size of the class. Classes are offered in the Skype format online. Class times: Thursday Class, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm; Meets on May 7 th , 14 th , 21 st and 28 th . If this class fills up we will add an additional class on Saturday. Saturday class is not available until the Thursday night class is fully booked. (Potential Saturday Class, 11 am – 12:30 pm; Would meets on May 9 th , 16 th , 23 rd and 30 th .)
